Background Since 1997

Empowering the Socio-Economic Base of Bogura

Abdul Hai Zahura Welfare Foundation (AHZWF) is a non-governmental organization working on poverty alleviation, rural development, and the sustainable empowerment of women. Established in 1997 by compassionate social workers in Shibganj, Bogura (30km north of Bogura town), our initial operational area began when local communities lived hand-to-mouth.

Over the years, the organization has formed structured self-help groups, bringing more than 1,200 rural men and women into the development mainstream and enabling them to attain economic self-reliance.

Our Goal

To improve the socio-economic, cultural, and political status of underprivileged, landless, and diverse sections of society.

Coverage Area

Approved in: Bogura, Joypurhat, Gaibandha, Dinajpur, Sirajganj, Pabna. Currently active in Bogura across 7 unions and 40 villages.

Shibganj: 38 villagesGabtoli: 2 villages

Prime Objectives

Remove illiteracy, end gender discrimination, advance comprehensive credit schemes, and empower rural poor using untapped local resources.

Ultra-Poor Households

Land under 2 bigha, monthly income below ৳3,000, selling labor 200+ days/year.

Distressed & Divorced Women

Primary focus partners — organized into groups to identify needs and assert rights.

Pregnant Women & Eligible Couples

Age 18–49, receiving health awareness and support services.

Children aged 0–12

Malnourished children and those deprived of education rights.

Youth & Students

School, college students and dropouts trained as future leaders.

Persons with Disabilities

Included in mainstream development and ensured total support.
